Roadmap HR Manage is continually being developed and improved with new modules being released all the time.  For a roadmap to see what will be coming soon, click here.

HR Manage 4.0 is split into 4 parts and is typically installed onto a server computer and one or more client computers. As an optional service, we can host the server components and database on our secure web server which means that you only need to install the application on the computers that will use HR Manage.

For the client computers that will use HR Manage, we recommend:

  • Pentium 4 processor
  • 512Mb Memory
  • 100Mb free space on Hard Drive
  • Windows XP SP2 or newer  (Windows 7 recommended)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 - Full Profile

If we host the database and server components, we also recommend an internet connection speed of at least 384kbps (512kbps recommended). One or two custom ports will also have to be opened on the firewall.

For the client computers that will only access the web components (e.g. http://www.hrmanage.co.za/DemoWeb), we recommend:

  • 256Kbps Internet connection
  • Any of the following web browsers are supported:
    • Internet Explorer 7 or newer
    • Mozilla Firefox 2 or newer
    • Google Chrome
    • Apple Safari
    • Opera 7 or newer
Supported web browsers

If you'll be hosting HR Manage on one of your own servers, we recommend the following server:

  • 2GHz Processor (or faster)
  • 2Gb Memory (or more)
  • Windows 2003 Server or newer  (Windows 2008 Server R2 recommended)
    • Internet Information Services should be activated
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or newer (Free edition SQL Express can also be used)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 - Full Profile
  • Microsoft AJAX extensions 1.0

A link to download the required .NET Framework is available under the Downloads section of our website.
Do take note that if you want to use the free edition of Microsoft SQL Server (Express edition), the server must only have one CPU.

With regards to licensing for Windows Server and SQL Server, you will only need Windows CALs for each user connecting to the server using HR Manage 4.0. Server CALs are not needed for users connecting to the server via internet explorer. With regards to SQL Server, one SQL Server account is created for the HR Manage application and only the application connects to the SQL server, not individual users.

Changes on the server

During the first installation, the server might need to be restarted due to the installation of the .NET Framework. HR Manage self will never require the server to be restarted as all program files are contained within its own folder on the server. Software is typically installed to the \HRManage folder and all updates will only be done under that folder. No system files will be affected. The typical folder structure for HR Manage on the server looks something like:

  • \HRManage
    • Backup\
      • Contains backup files of the program made before upgrades in order to rollback to previous versions if needed
    • bin\
      • Copy of the client application for testing purposes and the HR Manage Server Agent
    • bin\Server\
      • HR Manage Server application and Windows Service hosting the application
    • Data\
      • Stores the database mdf & ldf files
    • Setup\
      • Contains a copy of the installation files needed to install the client application on the client computers
    • Web\
      • Contains the web files hosted in IIS. Address will be http://servername/HRManageWeb

Server installation can be done on a single server or distributed over 3 servers (one for database, one for server components and one for web components). We do however strongly recommend that the HR Manage Server components and database be hosted on the same server for performance reasons. If the database server and application server are virtual servers on the same server or are connected via a very fast (1Gbps) network connection, then it is ok to separate the two.
